Section 3 - Green spaces, landscape and play

A key part of this will be restoring the natural valley that runs through the site - creating a more natural setting that supports wildlife, helping manage water naturally and providing space for walking, exploring and spending time outdoors.

We are also looking at how Gwash Meadows can be retained and enhanced as a large natural green space. Building on its existing character, it could become a place that feels much closer to the surrounding countryside than a traditional park, whilst creating stronger connections between Stamford North and the wider landscape.

Play areas

9. Which approach to play areas would you most like to see?

You can tick more than one.

Play that uses natural materials - large logs to balance on, stones to climb, loose materials to dig in. No plastic equipment.

Play that uses the landscape itself - Slopes, mounds, channels and changes in ground level become the play feature. Children can roll down hills, jump across streams or explore.

Traditional play equipment - Swings, slides, climbing frames on safety surfacing.

Natural play loosely woven into the wider landscape - Rather than a single dedicated play area, natural play features scattered informally throughout the green spaces

Spaces for young people and teens

These have been a consistent theme through our conversations to date. Young people of all ages need somewhere to go that’s safe, welcoming and close to home where they can spend time with friends, be independent and feel part of the community.
